Mission Statement
Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Parish of Chicago commits to serve the pastoral needs of the Knanaya Catholics in the State of Illinois, having domicile on the Southside of the Expressway 90 and those having domicile in the State of Indiana, in communion with the St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago and the Archeparchy of Kottayam. The church provides liturgical services in the Syro-Malabar and Syro-Malankara Rites, offers Religious Education and spiritual formation, organizes pious associations, ministries for all ages, koodara yogams (tent gatherings), promotes Knanaya traditions, and develops a spirit of Christian love
Brief History
Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Parish is the first parish church established for Knanaya Catholics outside the proper territory of the Archeparchy of Kottayam, India, and the first parish church of the Knanaya Catholic Region in the United States.The church was established on September 1, 2006, under the St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago with Rev. Fr. Abraham Mutholath as its founding pastor. The church was elevated as a forane church by Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath on March 22, 2015.
